Belsize Park
This elegant late-Victorian three storey house, set within a conservation area in Belsize Park, London, has been transformed into a light-filled four storey family home. Our brief was to sensitively extend the house to create additional living space for the clients whilst modernising throughout and retaining important period features where possible.
A single storey ground floor extension has been developed to the rear to provide living and kitchen facilities, opening through large minimally-framed glazed doors directly onto the attractive landscaped rear garden. The contemporary aesthetic of the extension sits harmoniously with the period architecture of the original house. Each new space has been given it’s own form to identify the different functions, with a long vista created through from front to back which successfully unites the new and old parts of the house. The original elegant features of the main reception rooms and grand entrance lobby have been maintained and carefully restored.
As you move up the well worn stairs to the upper floors the same attention to bringing in the light and celebrating the generous proportions of each of the rooms is evident. The roof space has been transformed into further usable space, with the addition of a fifth bedroom with ensuite, plus plenty of storage.
